Today I take a moment to remember a “passing friend”. Though he and I never met, he touched my live and probably your life as well. You may not recognize him by name, but you know his voice, his music, and the band he co-founded. His signature song is “God Only Knows” from the album Pet Sounds. The voice behind the song was Carl Wilson. Carl was a founding member of the Beach Boys. On February 6, 1998, Carl lost his battle with cancer. This is my moment to remember him on the 10 year anniversary of his passing. It is hard to believe that it has been 10 years since he passed away.
Though Carl and I never met in person, the closest I came to meeting him was seeing he and the rest of the Beach Boys performing in Lewes, DE on July 5, 1997. That was 6 months prior to his passing. He touched the lives of thousands if not millions of fans through his music.
Every couple has their song, whether it was the song they first danced to as a couple or simply a song they connect with together. Heather and I have a few of those songs, but our “song” has been The Beach Boys’ “God Only Knows”. Here are the lyrics to the song that Heather and I fell in love with and connected when we first heard the song together.
